Meet The Staff

Diana Rothenberg, Ed.D – Co-Director

Before creating The Children’s Playhouse in 1984, Dr. Diana Rothenberg, was a NYC Elementary School Teacher and an Assistant Professor of Special Education at Lehman College.  Her Doctorate Dissertation, from Columbia University, Teacher’s College, focused on the brain functions involved in reading acquisition.  She is the author of “The Organic Approach to Reading” [OAR], a phonic-based reading program that introduces young children to phonemes though fun games and songs. This program creates a strong foundation in reading and writing. Our graduates often land on the honor roll.

Diana is also the composer of “The Happy Road” CD by Diana & Friends which you can find at dianashappyroad.com.

Nisha Joshi – Co-Director / STEAM Coordinator

Nisha Joshi has been a teacher for more than 20 years, having worked with elementary, middle and high school children from diverse backgrounds.  She brings a great deal of experience to The Playhouse family, such as curriculum development, teacher-training, integration of technology within multiple disciplines and cross-connections between core learning subjects. Nisha has been a part of developing Health & Wellness curriculum through meditation classes in various schools, which supports the Playhouse’s holistic approach to learning.

Teaching Staff

Our highly trained teachers come to The Playhouse with a love for children that is reflected in their patience, caring and respect for each child. The teachers are the heart and soul of The Playhouse – implementing the Organic Approach to Reading, and projects geared towards developing fine and gross motor skills, creativity, and a love of learning.

Playhouse teachers attend annual accredited trainings in topics such as child development, health and safety, CPR, program development, and more.
